Recent economic events have a lot of people concerned and nervous.
World leaders are searching for solutions. Bailouts are being discussed and implemented for nations, industries and corporations.
Through it all fear is ruling and the market is behaving like a roller coaster.
A powerful statement made by one of our greatest minds is relevant to the situation.
“The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.” – Albert Einstein
Thus far the patches implemented and proposed are more of the same stuff that got us in to the financial condition we’re in. The solutions are a product of the same level of thinking that created the problem.
Where are we headed? There is also much concern about a date that is steadily drawing closer – December 2012.
In this article we’ll consider a solution that is a product of a different level of thought. The solutions offered here are not available to us at the time of this writing. So I’m offering the possibility that by the year 2012 perhaps humanity as a whole will have reached the level of consciousness whereby this solution can be reality.
The Law of the Harvest
First, we’ll discuss some background principles and ideas.
There is a law that governs every aspect of our lives.
It is simply stated thus:
You reap what you sow.
In the past couple years there has been a renewed interest in something called “The Law of Attraction”.
One way to state this law is:
Thoughts become Things.
The idea is that we bring into existence that which we think about and feel about.
These two laws are essentially the same. We sow thoughts, feelings and beliefs and reap the physical manifestation of them.
Beliefs and Economics
There is a basic or core belief within the human heart that goes something like this: Loss and lack are bad and must be avoided at all costs.
This belief produces a fundamental, basic fear.
This fear drives our lives and consumes us with incessant struggle to attain, achieve and hoard the object of our fears.
That object may be individual identity, money, power, sex, etc.
The individual manifestation of this belief varies based on the person and their particular obsessions.
The ultimate outcome is the same.
We experience the fruit of our beliefs.
And so whatever it is we think about and give our energy to comes to us.
The Spirit Aspect
We are spiritual beings first and physical beings second.
Most of the time we exist in a state of awareness that has it reversed.
Our focus tends to be so much on the physical body and everything tangible that we are largely unaware of the spiritual aspect of self which is life itself.
Without going into a lengthy discussion about spirit, oneness, and separation we will simply state that it is spirit that gives life that we all enjoy, spirit that connects us all and makes us one despite the uniqueness our physical characteristics provide.
Individuality is a contrivance of the ego to help us exist in the physical world.
When we put so much emphasis on our individuality and the expression of it, we often forget that we are spiritual.
After all, it’s pretty difficult to think of ourselves as something we know very little about.
It’s much easier to define ourselves by our jobs, social status, education, religion, race, citizenship, etc.
Defining self by physical parameters provides limitations that reduce the human being into powerless, ineffective, and fearful manifestations of infinite Spirit.
These physical definitions or limitations become our experience.
In this state of consciousness we struggle against our limitations.
We define ourselves by limitations and then strain against those limits while holding to the beliefs that created them in the first place so that nothing changes.
This is what Einstein was talking about.
Constantly subduing our spirit with the limitations of our chosen physical characteristics develops a near-sightedness in our selves that prevents us from seeing the possibilities and potential outside our current condition.
If we can’t see it, it cannot exist – or so we think.
Oneness and Separation
There seems to exist a Divine aspect which has various names and characteristics as defined by humans throughout the ages.
Omnipotence, Omniscience, and Omnipresence are three characteristics which are found within most definitions of the Divine.
The spirit aspect of self seems to be closely associated with the Divine in most traditions. We could say that the spirit is one with the Divine which connects all aspects and manifestations of spirit – making each individual inseparable from the whole.
Most traditions speak to a separation that exists and provide a means of finding a way back to the original condition of oneness.
If we let go of all ideas and beliefs of separation for a moment we are left with a state of oneness which unites every human being with the Divine.
So we could say it like this:
Because we are spirit and one with the Divine we are all one. Because we are giving life to individual physical bodies we are all separate.
Focus on physical/separation or spirit/oneness is a choice for each one of us.
As already stated our tendency is to spend the majority of our time focused on the physical/separate aspect.
We invest an incredible amount of energy into maintaining our bodies, asserting our uniqueness, accumulating our treasures, and just growing into the individuals we are.
Within this expenditure of energy we desire a connection to others and to the Divine. Sometimes that desire is so strong that individuals gain a sense of oneness that is greater than their sense of individuality or separation.
Ultimately whichever we are experiencing is our reality and it’s difficult to accept the other as being a valid point of view.
When we accept both views as aspects of our whole and live with a mindfulness of that wholeness we come to understand that separation does not exist.
In essence we are all one possessing individual characteristics that provide each an aspect of uniqueness.
This conclusion renders separation an illusion.
Once we arrive at this conclusion it becomes increasingly obvious how powerful the illusion is and how much effort is required to maintain it.
Keeping the Illusion in Place
To keep the illusion of separation in place requires a lot of energy.
To understand this on a personal level, take a moment to consider how much of your time and effort is put into maintenance of your body. Much of your day is spent cleaning, feeding, resting and providing for it’s needs.
We could say all that effort is expended on the physical or the aspect of separation.
So how much energy goes toward maintenance of the spirit?
One could argue that providing for the body provides for the spirit and to some degree that’s true. It is also true that spirit exists even while the body decays and dies.
So there is a maintenance for the spirit that is simply a deep acknowledgment of spirit as source of life.
Now consider the separation illusion as it applies to society, countries and the entire world.
Think for a moment about the energy required to maintain all that separateness.
An unbelievable amount of energy is consumed just to keep everything separated.
Systems of all kinds have been created to keep the illusion in place.
For the purpose of this discussion we’ll stick to the financial aspect of the illusion.
The Financial Illusion
In a financial system you need a currency of some type, along with systems to make, store, retrieve, track, distinguish, invest, distribute, and destroy the paper or coin when it’s worn out.
Then there are all the laws associated with with it all.
All of this stuff exists for one purpose – to keep monies separated to and from the right parties.
Why must money be separated to and from individuals? Because of the fear.
We fear running out of money. We fear not having enough money. We fear having too much money. We fear not being able to keep the money we have. We fear others having more or less than we have. We fear what having money will or will not do for us. If we hang onto these fears it won’t matter if it’s year 2012 or year 90210 nothing much will change.
We have all kinds of fears around money and these fears drive the need for financial separation.
And separation is illusion. And it’s kept in place by fear.
So there you have the fear consciousness of our financial system.
Money and The Bible
Let’s take a moment to consider a well known scripture.
Bible wisdom states “The love of money is the root of all evil”.
I offer this explanation:
The love of money could be defined as greed.
Greed is fear based and manifests in various forms.
If we spend some time considering the very root of this fear it has it’s origin in the physical. The physical body/self/ego has a powerful survival instinct.
Spirit doesn’t require survival because it’s eternal.
The physical struggles for survival because it is mortal – a temporary state.
It’s survival appears to depend on distinguishing itself from and above others.
Survival from the physical perspective requires or demands individuality.
To emphasize individuality we must invest heavily in the physical state.
We do this by selecting unique appointments for our physical in terms of clothing, housing, transportation, education, employment, investment, etc.
This fear and focus on investing in the physical state creates the illusion of separation.
The illusion of separation is the evil spoken of in the Bible quote above.
The Bible is simply a book about relationship with God.
It’s about knowing ourselves and God.
It’s about oneness with God or the Divine.
It’s about a consciousness that is beyond the sole focus of survival of the physical individual.
It’s about reality.
It’s about life without fear.
When you let go of fear, separation is done.
If you’ve stuck with me this far congratulations!
We’ve gone off on some tangents that may seem unrelated to economics.
Bear with me while we tie it all together.
After all, without separation everything is related!
So here’s the fix to the economic distress we’ve created:
Stop feeding the illusion of separation.
That sounds simple and it is.
To understand it we must take another detour and look at something we can all understand – a relationship with a loved one.
The Fix at the Personal Level
How do we stop feeding the illusion of separation at the personal level?
The very first step is to come to an awareness that we are all indeed one.
Without this consciousness at a very deep level nothing will change.
Remember – Our physical experience is a manifestation of our inner condition.
Change the inner belief system and the outer condition will follow.
So step one is an inner work. It’s a paradigm shift. It’s seeing your world and how you relate to it in a completely different light.
Let’s consider what that might look like.
If you have parents, children, spouse, or lover, you are aware of the intense feelings of union you can experience. Likely you are also aware of the feelings of intense separation that arise upon occasion.
Why do we have such intense feelings that are polar opposites?
We know how we feel when we’re experiencing a feeling of union. It’s bliss. We love that feeling.
We also know how we feel when we’re experiencing dis-unity. It’s hell. We feel miserable and long for the feeling of union again.
Often the way back to union and the bliss we long for involves an apology or at least an admission of a mistake on our part.
Where does this constant back and forth come from? Why are we bouncing between states of bliss and misery?
Consider where you are when in a state of union or bliss.
This is where everything is perfect and accepted as such.
We could say that bliss is a state of acceptance.
Love is a state of acceptance.
Love isn’t blind – it just accepts the other person as they are.
At odds with our desire for union is a longing to be right.
To be right we must form some conclusions about what is right and wrong.
Once those conclusions are formed we are at a place where a choice is required.
That choice made is judgment.
That judgment represents nothing more or less than our individual conclusion about right and wrong.
Typically we invest our selves heavily in those judgments. We build our physical existence with those judgments. We define ourselves by them – and we define others by them as well.
Judgment and union are states of being that are polar opposites to each other – or 180 degrees apart as we sometimes say.
So here we are in a state of union with a loved one.
We’re experiencing their wonderful characteristics. Even those that are different from our own we admire.
Then that loved one leaves the toilet seat up.
We’ve already determined according to our conclusion about right and wrong that leaving the toilet seat up is wrong.
Now we’re forced to choose between oneness or our own very right judgment.
Sometimes the feelings of union are so strong that oneness wins out.
Often self in its need to distinguish itself and be right gains the upper hand and the judgment is proclaimed.
Judgment separates. There is no other way.
Self loves it because it’s empowering. To have power you must separate yourself from others.
Yes there are trade offs but it’s worth it to the self (or so it seems) which is struggling to assert itself.
Stuck in Separation
Once we find ourselves in the state of separation there’s only one thing we want – union.
We want to get back to the place where we are experiencing the acceptance and harmony of oneness.
Often at the personal level we convince ourselves that the reason we can’t experience union with a particular individual has to do with some irreconcilable differences and so we must move on to a relationship with someone else.
Once we’re in that new relationship the process is repeated and we look for another.
If we pay attention we may become aware of what is actually happening and discover that the whole distasteful situation was created by our conclusions and judgments.
In other words – it’s not other people at all – has nothing to do with them whatsoever.
This is a bitter pill but it’s also empowering because it gives us means to shift the situation to something more desirable.
This realization opens the door to rich relationships with others, greater acceptance of others and ourselves, and a release of some of those conclusions and judgments that created the separation in the first place.
Judgment in The Bible
There is one scripture that I will reference.
1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. (KJV)
Christ gave this admonition.
Humanity has ignored it. Those who don’t ignore it often find other scriptures to justify disobeying it.
Regardless it is our tendency to judge and we’re good at it.
Judgment as referenced here is a choice made based on a conclusion of right and wrong.
As discussed there are consequences and they come in the moment judgment is made.
Excuses can be made and arguments expressed for the benefits of certain kinds of judgment.
The end result is always separation.
Separation as a result of our own thinking.
That’s why it’s illusion. It’s no more real or tangible than a thought.
The Revelation Practiced
How does one practice this new way of thinking?
How do you implement these ideas in your life in order to make a difference?
There are a couple practices that are useful.
One is to just notice your attachment to your personal conclusions about right and wrong and the judgments that result.
Once you begin to observe them you’ll see them everywhere. And you’ll begin to notice the separation that results.
The second thing to do is be patient with yourself and others.
This new perspective will enable you to see what is driving the apparent problems in your daily life.
You will see how your own judgments and the judgments of others work together to create complicated situations that appear unresolvable.
In this place of new vision, it’s best to observe and notice how easy it is for you to judge yourself for being judgmental.
This is a deep rooted tendency we’ve developed. It’s not going to dissipate instantly – at least not at the time of this writing.
The next thing you don’t have to do. You will just become.
As you patiently observe you will grow in understanding and compassion.
Growth in this way will slowly stop feeding your personal illusion of separation.
Over time the oneness and connectedness of all becomes apparent.
Additional Personal Considerations
We all have systems we use in our personal lives.
These range from the way we care for our bodies to the way we eat our food to the way we interact at work to the way we spend and save money.
As you go about your day you will notice how your daily activities have developed from the conclusions you have drawn.
All of them are ways of interacting with the physical that feel right for you.
You can notice them, play with them and see what develops.
If you drive to work a certain route every day because it’s the shortest or fastest, there’s a system based on a conclusion.
Tomorrow take a different route and don’t judge it! Just notice how you think and feel about it.
If there seems to be more traffic are you nervous, impatient, angry? Are you telling yourself you should have gone the old familiar “better” way?
You can then ask yourself some questions about your thoughts.
Is this true?
What would I lose if I gave up that conclusion?
This exercise will help you understand how “locked in” to an idea we become once we arrive at our conclusions and judgment.
Letting go of the attachments to those conclusions and judgments is freedom – something we can all experience as we give patient attention to our personal systems.
Enlarging the Shift
Once we stop feeding the illusion of separation in our thinking our individual way of being changes.
Anything that has ever been created in the physical began with a thought. That thought, the internal work, was entertained, nourished and developed until the outer work could begin. The idea or image of the end result was held in the creator’s mind as the outer work manifested the desired result.
So it is with the process we’re exploring here. As we hold the idea of oneness in our minds and begin shifting the physical to create that idea our life changes.
The manifestation may be something as simple as getting along better with your spouse – but it’s change and it’s the result of an inner work followed by an outer work.
Let’s now enlarge the shift a bit.
The reality of oneness is such a powerful idea applied to personal life.
What if we apply it to the entire human race?
We’ve already discussed the idea that human beings are all spirit and one with the Divine.
It’s not too difficult to entertain that idea with your immediate family.
If it’s true in that application then it’s true applied to the entirety of humanity.
S t r e t c h
Let’s stretch this idea out a bit.
Consider with me for a moment that we humans are all one – every nationality, every race, every age, every single human being on or off this planet – one.
So let’s imagine now how that internal realization would manifest on a worldwide scale.
Global Financial Separation
As previously stated we have developed systems of separation. These systems help maintain the illusion of separation.
Once the internal realization of oneness occurs these systems will no longer serve.
Therefore they will be reconstructed to reflect the inner belief and understanding of oneness.
Perhaps the most significant system on our planet is the economic or financial system.
It is the one system by which all people on earth are tied together.
The financial system is a complicated web of transactions that influences every person, every nation, every government on the planet.
There are indicators authorities monitor to evaluate the health of the economy. These are used to make adjustments that sometimes work and sometimes don’t.
Much of what occurs is driven by investors and their confidence or fear.
Even when you think you are utilizing the system to your benefit something may occur that reduces that benefit or eliminates it altogether.
In many ways our global financial system could be compared to a monster we’ve created that we can no longer control.
It is actually an accurate representation of our collective internal belief system and condition.
But now something is changing.
We no longer see ourselves as all these separate beings.
We have come to a realization that we’ve got a cumbersome financial system that doesn’t reflect the oneness of humanity as we now understand it.
So how do we reconstruct the global financial system to reflect the oneness of humanity?
Maybe we should talk about how we don’t do it.
About 2000 years ago a group of Christians decided to pool all their resources.
32 All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had.
33 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all.
34 There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales
35 and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need. (NIV)
Apparently it didn’t grow beyond the group that was one in heart and mind.
Actually it couldn’t grow. Those who were of one heart and mind were simply outnumbered.
They were also part of a religious movement that didn’t fit the norm.
So it just didn’t catch on.
Various political thinkers have pushed various social experiments throughout history. Nations have tried all kinds of idealistic solutions and attempted to force them to work.
All have failed to some degree or other.
So now we know what doesn’t work.
Why haven’t these experiments worked?
The “solutions” imposed were products of the same level of thinking that created the original problem.
The level of thinking was immersed in the illusion of separation.
Even the group in Acts? Yes. Especially them.
Religions are strongholds of separation. They couldn’t exist without it.
There is a tendency to think about some change starting out in a small way and gradually taking over.
That may happen.
Change could also take place very differently.
Because thinking is occurring at a new level I believe change could occur at a different level – perhaps quickly and on a large scale. It could happen before year 2012.
Let’s consider how higher thinking evolves.
We as human beings rely on systems for much of what we accomplish.
A system is developed and then in order to keep the system working as planned, new policies must be developed and implemented.
In this process new ideas and approaches are tried and tested.
When at last it seems that every possible idea and plan has been attempted and the system still fails it’s time to change or eliminate the system.
We have nearly arrived at that point with the global financial system.
Eventually we will be forced to acknowledge it a system that no longer serves and go on to something different.
At some point people must examine the root of their thinking around the system.
The thoughts rooted in the illusion of separation – which are the old ways of being and doing will gradually become viewed as outdated and obsolete.
This shift may occur from something as simple as reading this article.
The fact that you are reading this may indicate a new openness to higher thoughts and ways of being within yourself.
When enough people arrive at the same conclusion amazing things can happen very quickly.
Change can then be accepted very easily.
The recent election of Barack Obama is proof that thought has shifted significantly. Both presidential candidates were pushing their own brand of change and America chose the one who is most unlike any president ever elected in this country.
The election demonstrates shift in thinking around the globe.
Other nations are jubilant and feeling hopeful of change.
It is truly amazing to witness the shift in thinking that is occurring.
Imagine if the thinking of people across the globe shifts at such a pace as to cause the dissolution of the complicated financial system.
How would that look?
I don’t know but we can daydream a little together!
Before we jump into this a word of notification:
You may notice some feelings of resistance to these ideas. These feelings may manifest as some very familiar emotions. I encourage you to just notice the feelings. Later you may wish to consider their origin and explore their validity. For now I invite you to just imagine with me.
Let’s jump right in:
All monies in all currencies are rolled into one account.
There is only one bank.
No one is in charge because no one needs to be.
Every transaction is done electronically and instantly.
No interest rates to adjust to stimulate anything. No trends to monitor.
Just a system that works.
So how does it work?
You wake one fine morning. You prepare for your day as usual.
Before you head off to work you decide to get on your computer to check your bank account balance.
When you click on the login button a message pops up.
It reads something like this:
We are pleased to inform you that your personal bank account has been rolled into the Universal Account.
Your balance is: The sum total of all the money on earth.
It will remain this amount regardless of how much you spend.
Thank you for your business.
You’re stunned and feel very thankful for the support of the chair you are sitting on….
On your way to work you call some of your family and friends asking them to check their accounts. They all have the same message on their computer screens.
Once you arrive at work you ask your co-workers if they’ve checked there bank accounts – they haven’t.
At your request they do. The all have the same message.
You call the bank. You get an automated message explaining that all accounts are now one account.
There is no option to check your account balance – only a message telling you that the account is full.
The loan department is closed. Their messages tells you that you owe no one anything and loans no longer exist.
You call your credit card company to check your balance. You get another message.
This one states that you no longer have a credit account. All credit cards are invalid and all credit accounts are closed.
By now you’re reeling. Your feelings are all over the place. In some ways it seems too good to be true. In other ways it seems like the end of the world.
What about my mortgage, you wonder? A call to the mortgage company yields yet another message.
Your mortgage is settled and the account closed. Your deed is in the mail.
Your car notes? Same thing. All debts canceled. Your title is on its way to your mailbox.
Now your head is spinning. You love what appears to have happened but you’re thinking you will soon wake up and discover it was only an incredible dream.
You wonder how you will get paid at work. In some ways it doesn’t really matter if you are paid.
Your company continues to deposit your weekly check into your account for a couple weeks. Then they realize that it is really unnecessary.
They’re simply taking money out of the account, direct depositing into the account and so the amount of money in the account remains unchanged.
You go to the store to buy groceries and use your bank card or check. The money is again transferred from the account back into the account and the balance remains the same.
Soon everyone realizes that there isn’t any need for the transactions. Whether or not the transaction occurs the account balance stays the same.
Every person, business and nation has the same account.
Money no longer matters.
Imagine a little farther if you will.
Now that money no longer matters how does your life look?
You owe no money. Your home, cars, boat, everything you’ve been making payments on is yours.
You now have the means to buy anything you want.
No more trying to keep up with the Jones’.
You don’t have to ask your boss for a raise.
No need to worry about your Social Security, 401k, college for the kids, investing in the stock market or savings accounts.
Your retirement is covered. Everything is covered.
If you’re working at a job you don’t like you may quit.
Or something else may happen.
If you examine the reasons why you don’t like your job and then take money matters out of the equation how would you feel?
Many people go to work because they feel trapped because of a need for money. It may be debt, or just the cost of living, or things they desire.
If you no longer felt trapped in your job would you hate it so much? Probably not.
If it’s your boss you dislike even that would shift.
If you’re in fear of losing your job you are very careful around your managers and supervisors even if you don’t like them.
More than likely communication is poor and you’re talking with others behind your managers back.
Now that money doesn’t matter you aren’t afraid to speak your mind directly to management. Management can’t threaten you with pay cuts, termination or anything else.
Suddenly you are in a place of security – as is your manager. The only thing that can keep the relationship going is mutual respect and communication – and the path is cleared for it now!
What about the darker side of society?
What about crime?
Most if not all crime is an act based on a perceived lack.
You feel that you lack money so you rob a bank or steal some goods to sell.
You fear lack so you kill. You lack security so you hoard.
Now you have no lack. There isn’t a need to take from another in any way.
You have the means to obtain anything you wish. Anything at all.
What about drugs? Alcohol abuse?
Would we become a society of drunken drug abusers?
Why are those habits cultivated? Are they not an escape from some type of perceived lack?
If the lack perception is gone drugs and alcohol may be a non-issue.
The other side is that if the abuser has unlimited funds they may quickly take themselves out of the picture by enjoying their habit to the fullest.
How about stress? Are you still stressed out?
Most people are stressed about their finances and their jobs since the two are closely related.
Now that finances aren’t an issue your job isn’t an issue.
Your relationships may even improve.
Where are you going to find stress?
Ask and It is Given
So now what does a shopping trip look like?
You go to the grocery store and ask for what you need and it’s yours.
You go to the car lot and ask for the car you want and the dealer hands you the keys, tag and title.
You stop for lunch at a local restaurant, place your order and your food is delivered to your table – no charge.
You might even stop at the department store. You try on a few things, find a couple items you like and let the clerk know. And they’re yours.
You wonder “Why did we ever think money was a necessity”?
Finally you are seeing an instant physical correlation to those ancient words of Christ:
7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. (NIV)
We have just spent a few minutes developing a global society that no longer craves or needs money and look where we are.
We’ve eliminated money’s importance and we find ourselves secure, comfortable and free.
Those are all the things we fight and strive for – have been for thousands of years – and now they’re ours!
No wars have been fought, no shots fired. No terrorists have been killed, no soldiers have died.
How strange! How can that be?
You have just witnessed the power behind higher thinking.
You have seen the result of thinking in terms of oneness instead of separation.
This shift in thinking returns power to the source.
When we’re engulfed in separation power is given to that which distinguishes.
Money and that which money can buy has been the primary distinguishing tool.
When global thinking shifts toward oneness distinguishing factors don’t matter.
When distinguishing factors no longer matter, they hold no power over us.
You could reduce the equation to Power follows Thought.
We give power to whatever we think about. This is why our thoughts are so important. This is why we cannot solve our problems by thinking at the same level we’ve been thinking.
Consider this scripture:
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. KJV)
Spiritual thinkers have always known the importance of attention to thought. They’ve practiced and taught these principles.
Yet somehow mainstream thinking has remained rooted in thoughts that don’t benefit us.
Only a few have been able to lift their thoughts to higher levels – until now.
We’re living in a time where people are seeking like never before. They’re seeking answers, solutions that work, thoughts and ideas that are higher.
And they’re being rewarded for their seeking.
Rewards are manifesting as new ways of living, being and relating to one another.
All of this points to a destination of oneness.
Believers and Oneness
If you claim belief in Christ and The Bible as God’s word you may be wondering how all this fits into God’s plan.
Let’s look at a portion of the prayer of Jesus found in John’s gospel.
20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. (KJV)
Christ was making the request that believers everywhere and throughout time could experience oneness with the Father. He wanted all believers to have the same relationship with the Father that he lived and loved.
Most Christians put that relationship out of reach in their lives by their belief.
Even though Christ is viewed as an example, oneness with God as a state of being is reserved for the afterlife.
Why is this? It’s because we’re so caught up in separation.
In this prayer, Christ seemed to make oneness the highest priority – the goal to be achieved. Yet we’ve made our own goals higher and more important.
Our goals often lead to greater separation. Enhanced individuality. Perceived superiority over others.
All while supposedly upholding Christian principles.
It’s an odd mix really. It’s called “making provision for the flesh” in the scriptures.
Consider the record of the prophet Isaiah:
1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:
4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.
5 And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.
6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
7 And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
8 And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den.
9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
10 And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious. (KJV)
This vision of Isaiah written approximately 700 years before Christ paints an amazing picture. It’s a picture of oneness. A unity never before seen by you and I.
Isaiah and Christ were pointing to the same thing. The life of Jesus was pointing to oneness. All the teachings of Jesus point to oneness.
Healing comes when beliefs change. Healing for the present condition of humanity will come about as beliefs shift.
Healing for the economic woes of the world will manifest as beliefs evolve.
We know where we need to go.
And we’re on our way!
The year 2012 holds meaning in various ways to many today.
Some believe there will be a tremendous shift in awareness around that time.
Personally I don’t know and don’t pretend to predict such things.
I see and feel evidence of a shift.
And I look forward with great anticipation to the future we share at a higher level. Let’s get there before year 2012! Why not?
And now I invite you to share your opinions and thoughts.
