Lesson 6

Prepare Your Heart To Talk To God

by Robert Pedersen

Another belief that can stand in the way of communication with God is the idea:

“God is invisible.”

Invisible to the physical doesn’t exist.

God being invisible presents a problem to beings so absorbed in the physical such as you and I.

We struggle with the concept of God anyway.

This belief doesn’t make it any easier.

Part of us understands how it all might work.  The other part just doesn’t buy it.

Jesus taught that “God is a spirit and they who worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth”.

You and I are spirits.  We happen to be providing life to a human body presently.

The real aspect of you is invisible too.  But very real.

We can sense that spiritual aspect and know it’s reality.

In that moment spirit is no longer invisible.

It requires spirit to sense spirit.

This is where we communicate with God.

Of course we are physical as well.  So if we’re spiritual and physical could we allow God to be that too?

If you and I are spiritual beings doing physical work could we allow God that possibility?

This opens up the possibility for God to become physically visible.  Which is a good possibility to allow if we’re talking
about an omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent being.

Many believers feel strongly that Christ was God made flesh. There are scriptures that point to that idea.

We may be comfortable saying that God has taken on a visible form once.  Could God do this again?  Is he doing it now?

Some sense God in nature.  We are encouraged to see God in others.  Scriptures, other spiritual writings, hymns point to the idea of the creation manifesting God.

Perhaps God isn’t as invisible as we think!

Scripture reference:

 Rom 1:20-23
20  For since the creation of the world God’s
invisible qualities– his eternal power and divine
nature– have been clearly seen, being understood
from what has been made, so that men are without
     excuse.
21  For although they knew God, they neither
glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but
their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts
     were darkened.
22  Although they claimed to be wise, they became
     fools
23  and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for
images made to look like mortal man and birds and
     animals and reptiles.  (NIV)

Here’s a scripture that points to the invisible God being known by visible creation – so that men are without excuse.

Just because God is apparently invisible is no excuse for us to be strangers to Him.

If we are open to seeing God in what is visible then God is no longer invisible!

What a great article. So very true……We are spirit having a physical experience. God shines through each and everyone of us:)
