Lesson 4

Prepare Your Heart To Talk To God

by Robert Pedersen

Here’s another belief that’ll severely limit communication with God.

“I don’t know how to communicate with God.”

You may feel that you simply don’t know anything about communicating with God.

You are not alone in that feeling.

Actually, you are in the best place to learn if you feel you don’t know.

Scripture tells us about many people that didn’t know.

Moses felt totally inadequate and he became a great leader of God’s people.

Jesus disciples indicated their lack of knowledge and asked the Christ for help.

“Lord teach us how to pray” was one of their requests.

If you don’t know you’re in good company.

Along with that feeling you may believe that it’s impossible to know.  This is where it is easy to become stuck.

Perhaps you’ve been taught how to talk to God.  Maybe you’ve attended various churches, learned different doctrines and through it all simply felt confused.

Again you’re not alone.

Sorting through the mounds of spiritual and religious information out there is daunting and confusing.

Fortunately you don’t have to!

When you are in the state of not knowing asking is the answer.

Christ gives us an amazing promise in scripture.

 Ask and it will be given to you;  seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened.
Matt 7:7 (NIV)

What is this promise worth?

Going back to the first lesson you received – According to your faith be it unto you.

The promise isn’t worth anything if you can’t accept it.

If you can accept the promise it’s everything you allow it to be.

Scripture reference:

Psalms 46:10
Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the
nations, I will be exalted in the earth.  (NIV)

This verse is the inspiration for BeStillKnowGod.com.

Stillness is essential to finding God, communicating with God, knowing God – anything to do with God.

Stillness is quieting our own mind, intellect, thinking, fears, doubts and just being in the place where God can communicate with you!

This is why you don’t have to search and search for God.  This is why you are not required to sort through every book that has ever been written about God.  This is why you don’t need anyone to tell you about God.

You have all that is required to communicate with God and to know God right now!

and now for the hard part , to be still !! seems like I struggle with that .
according to your faith be it unto you , well that explains it doesn’t it !

Stop believing that you struggle with being still! :-)

Stillness is our true nature. The incessant rushing is a learned habitual response to stimuli.

I try to be still but seems like my thoughts can not stop, im always thinking abt something

The mind doesn’t give up easily – and neither should we!

Try observing and asking “What next?” See if that helps slow the thoughts down.

I really want to hear God speak to me, and sometime i feel that he is, but then i wonder if i heard right, i keep wrestling with my mind and my heart, don’t know what to do but to keep praying and believing.

I’ve been so busy praying to God that I haven’t been still and waited to hear His voice to me. I want to learn this stillness and waiting.

I have tried to be still, it seems so hard, thoughts after thoughts just running through my mind, I guess I must try to let these thoughts running through my mind till it stop completely by itself.

Stillness is a bit of a challenge.

Sometimes it helps to notice your thoughts and then ask your mind “What next?” Your mind may entertain you for a bit but eventually that endless stream will subside.

Key is to not give up. There’s no rush. We’ve all lived a long time with thoughts running constantly through our minds.

Just notice them with loving acceptance and let them come and then go.

Be easy with yourself. You’re doing just fine!

Blessings,

Robert

Ann,

You’ve been busy doing what you’ve been taught to do! Probably reading your Bible too!

Nothing wrong with any of it, but it’s just not a relationship with God. Just depends on what a person wants!
