The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD. (KJV)
This is an amazing scripture to consider as we think about preparing our hearts for communication with God.
Because we are spirit and God is spirit there is a level at which we can know and speak with God.
As we seek God’s presence we become aware of some things within us that inhibit a close and deep relationship with God. These show up in different ways and may take on various forms but when we dig down to the source we discover that all blocks to communication with God are beliefs or ideas we hold in our hearts.
These beliefs we discover don’t serve us and we’re forced to let some of them go if we’re committed to developing a relationship with God. Letting go isn’t always easy and often much of the difficulty arises from not really getting to the root belief that’s creating the block to real communication with God.
The verse in Proverbs can be seen as a wonderful promise of help – The preparations of the heart in man are from the Lord! This means to me that God is wanting to help us reveal and expose those beliefs that keep us stuck and separated from Him.
Since the creation story we see a theme of God reaching out to his people. Wanting to relate to them, commune with them – and now we discover that God wants to even work within our own hearts to help us know Him better.
As we seek God’s face in earnest we’ll be led through experiences, guided to teachers, brought into contact with ideas that will challenge our past ideas about God. Questions will arise. We’ll be forced to find new answers because the old ones won’t work anymore. It’s God’s way of stretching us – preparing us for deeper relationship with Him. It’s God’s way of increasing our faith – not in man and man’s systems, but in God and His awesome ways of being and doing!
In this course “Prepare Your Heart To Talk With God” we’ll discuss and examine some common beliefs about God. Likely you will be quite familiar with them. Some of them you may hold and never have noticed before.
Often you need to do nothing more than notice them. Recognize them for what they are and mentally let them go if you sense that they do not aid you in your search for God.
Just as shadows disappear when the light is put on them, so do some of our ideas about God that really aren’t accurate. When exposed to the Light of Christ – they just dissolve away.
To spend a little time examining your own heart is beneficial – and good for you!
