“I do not believe that we can limit God – God is almighty and he can speak when he wishes.”
That was a one line response to lesson 7 of my free course offered on this site.
This is true in my estimation as well. I don’t wish to give the idea that we can tie God’s hands or prevent God from doing what He wishes. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
At the same time I believe we place limits on what God can speak to us by our beliefs about God. If our beliefs were not a critical part of our relationship with God then scriptures such as Hebrews 11:6 would make no sense.
Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (KJV)
The limits are placed on our end – not on God’s end. The limits are that which we reject of God’s work and will in our lives. That’s where we lack faith.
Imagine your telephone ringing and you refusing to answer it. Would you then blame the caller for never trying to reach you? Ludicrous right? And yet we play that exact trick on God.
We go through life worrying and fretting, crying out to God begging Him to help us, to speak to us and He’s just waiting for us to answer the phone. That’s what I mean when I say we limit God. What can God do for us if we don’t allow it?
Now you may have the belief that you cannot prevent God by “not answering the phone”. That’s fine. If that’s the case in your life then God is taking care of you whether you wish it or not.
If that’s the case then you’re in good hands and likely would not be browsing a site about communicating with God.
If however, you have such a belief and you don’t feel a close relationship with God then perhaps it’s not working quite the way you believe it does.
Here is where you must take a closer look at your beliefs about God – sort through them. Find the ones that work and keep them. Likewise discover which ones no longer work and discard them.
This is a process that we’re all going through all the time whether we know it or not. Life brings us experiences that speed as well as slow the process at times. It’s a great part of living and it’s a wonderful part of God’s plan that allows us to grow closer and closer to Him.
