Heaven’s Just A Sin Away…

Heaven’s just a sin away….

Remember that old country song?

I’m talking about the Christian heaven – the place good people go when they die. I understand that there are a lot of different ideas about who gets in to heaven and how it all works but I’m not here to argue that one way or another.

The thing that I find intriguing is the whole concept of heaven and how we relate it to ourselves – and the way we put ourselves in the other place….

We’ve made heaven the habitation of the soul or spirit. The physical body doesn’t get to enjoy heaven. Although there is a fair amount of effort put into achieving some sort of physical bliss it definitely isn’t eternal!

Even though heaven is a place for the soul, we’ve made it to be a physical place. In the Christian tradition it has streets of gold, pearly gates – it’s a great city. In other traditions apparently you get 72 virgins – but I don’t really know anything about that.

It is interesting to me that we’ve made heaven a physical place for non physical beings. Don’t you find that a bit strange? I mean why would your spirit care if it’s gliding over streets of gold or streets of mud? What’s the gate for anyway? Spirits can’t be contained by fences, walls or anything else as far as I know.

Which brings me to the question – is it possible that we have the whole idea of heaven a bit off?

What if heaven IS just a sin away? The sin may be just an erroneous idea about heaven. So if we repent of that idea – then we may experience heaven!

Are you willing to consider the possibility?

Here’s the deal. Your spirit is eternal and knows no physical constraints. If you are reading this your spirit is likely inhabiting a body so it may seem that there are some limits – but those limits are a function of the physical, not the spiritual.

In the spirit there is no past, present or future. Because the spirit is eternal it’s already in the “eternity” we tend to think of as a time period that begins when we die. Which means that if heaven is a place for the spirit in eternity that you have the potential to experience it now.

The “sin” is thinking about heaven as a physical place when actually it’s a spiritual condition – just as hell is a spiritual condition.

So there’s the sin that keeps you out of heaven. It’s the idea that heaven is something other than what it really is.

Two of the other important characteristics of heaven is oneness with God and a place of pure peace. This again is a condition of spirit. The physical body can’t experience either one unless the spirit is dwelling in that space.

Guess what? Your spirit can experience that now! In fact in this moment is the only time that spirit can experience peace and oneness with God. You will not magically wake up some day and just find yourself connected with God in a wonderful place of peace.

Which brings up an interesting question – what does happen when the spirit separates from the body? Is there any real reason to believe that your spirit is going to become something that it hasn’t been while providing life to your body?

I don’t think so – which means that every possibility that your spirit could enjoy in “heaven” is available now.

Heaven really is just a sin away. Another way of saying it is sin stands between us and heaven.

All we have to do is let go of the “sin” of wrong thinking and allow our spirit to be at peace and one with God – which is its true condition.

heaven can only be experienced in the spirit, the soul has to leave the body to get to heaven.i know i,ve been there!if your are under the impression that the spirit stays in the body after death,i,m sorry to tell you it does not.when one dies it does it does not necessarly mean you get to stay in heaven either!heaven has to be earned, and it is very hard to achieve.

Marlin,

I don’t know how you get the impression that I think the spirit stays in the body after death. I’m fairly certain that it does not.
I’m with you on this one!

Sorry Robert, I can not think of heaven or where it is or how to get there right now because it is a part of my tomorrow that I can not understand. I have heard “You have to sin to be saved” and believing this I definitely qualify for heaven of whatever and where ever it is or is not. Right now working on my relationship with God and understanding and relating His relationship with me is as big a task as I am capable of doing right now.

Dealing with my sinfullness, I share this url that gives me comfort with my need for His mercy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVJ_iMXOijk&feature=related

Hi Robert,

Once again your timing is impeccable; I have been considering these two issues this weekend. I will reply in detail later as I am pushed for time currently.
Regards,

Charles

No need to be sorry!
I just offer some thoughts for your consideration – or not! Not everything I offer is for everyone all the time!

What a delicious idea! You can experience Heaven right now because it is not so much a physical place or location but a state of being which is Peace and Oneness with God!

Wow, I do agree that if we work hard on eradicating sin in our Lives then what is to say that we do not experience this state of being right here and now?…!!!!

Praise HIM for making this possible for us!!!

The article and views expressed above seem to be germinating as if the concept of heaven and hell was cleverly devised by the prophets to discipline the minds of men (and women), and to make them decent, responsible humans. But then understand that what is really non-existent, does not have a name. It has to be kept in mind that the scriptures of the world don’t tell falsehoods, nor can they be wrong. No, never. If it is mentioned therein, then these things must be existing somewhere. Just because some of you have not seen them, can’t be a sufficient reason to doubt their existence.
