What is God’s will?
This is a question that consumes a lot of people at some level.
We’re taught that there is a Master plan for our life that we must discover in order to live life properly, be fulfilled and serve God.
Problem is no one tells us what it is.
So we wander through life looking into this or that supposing that God’s will for us is right around the corner. We may even be praying to God in quiet desperation – asking for Him to reveal whatever His will is for us.
Here’s the thing. We’ve made it up that God’s will is unknown. We’ve made it up that it’s hard to discover. We’ve made it up that it’s likely something we don’t’ really want to do. We’ve made it up that it’s a specific job or task for us. We’ve also made it up that it’s unlikely we’ll ever know for sure.
I don’t believe any of that. I do not accept that God desires you and me to wander around on this earth looking for something that we can’t find – like some sort of hide and seek game. No. That’s not it.
Could it be that our assumptions about God’s will are a bit off? More than likely!
The other day I was meditating on God’s will and thinking in particular of this scripture:
Luke 22:41-43
41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. (KJV)
Jesus’s prayer was answered by an angel who strengthened him. This indicates to me that what Jesus was praying for was acceptance of the experience he was facing.
You see the human resists and the divine accepts. We tend to fight our whole lives through – making judgments, this thing is right or wrong, resisting one thing or another, resisting here and there.
That isn’t God’s will. That type of living robs you of peace, joy, love, happiness and all the good things you seek.
So what is God’s will?
Here it is and it’s so simple: Live in grateful acceptance of your life.
I can hear you now…. “That’s it?” “What?!?!?!”
Yes, that’s it. I’m not saying it’s easy to perform, but it is easy to understand – here’s no mystery around it and you don’t have to spend the rest of your life looking for it!
Jesus knew that the cross was part of his experience. That was established. He wasn’t questioning that. He just needed strength to accept it in that moment – and he got it.
Jesus lived in grateful acceptance of his lot. That my friend is the biggest difference between a life of power and the life you and I live when we’re in resistance.
Living in grateful acceptance brings peace, power, joy, love. Every good thing we could ever ask for or think about comes from living within God’s will.
God’s will is about a way of being not something to do.
Doing something is important only from the human perspective. Being is important from the spiritual perspective.
Being in grateful acceptance of your life is the most powerful you can be and from that place everything you do is within God’s will and the perfect thing for you to do!

ok that was too easy !! didn’t see that coming.
However it is so true ! I guess I tend to look too deep for meaning at times I miss the obvious .
Thanks I needed that .

We all do that….and the teaching we receive doesn’t help. From what I’ve learned in the past everything related to God was shrouded in mystery. Now I know that God isn’t hiding anything from us. We hide it ourselves by refusing the simplicity that is in Christ.
Thanks for that. It was just recently that I prayed to God for His will for my life and I guess this sums it up. It was very easy and much different than what I expected. However it makes a lot of sense.
It is simple! Living this way will challenge us and bring rich rewards. The implications are tremendous!
Hi Robert,
Bless you for that article, very brief and simple.
I like the part where you say that, being is more important than doing, very true!! We probably struggle with that because the system of the world from onset teaches us how to do and not become!! This reminds me of what God says, that a tree produces what it is, so if you are a good tree (have become), it doesnt matter where you are or what you are doing, you produce good fruits!! Someone once said to me about Romans 12:1- 2: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
that the whole essence of renewing our mind, is to become a good tree!!! so we produce no matter what.
Blessings,
Leah
Leah,
Thank for sharing those verses.
Our mind does determine what we produce. We all are capable of anything – so we’re all good trees if we have the mind to be!
Let this mind be in you which was in Christ…..
The Christ mind is an enlightened mind – a mind in alignment with God and who we truly are. It accepts the infinite possibilities and sees no impossibility.
We can produce amazing things with that mind!

Hello Robert, I don’t remember how I discovered your site a year ago, but I was so glad I did, I took your Prepare your heart to talk with God which I enjoyed immensely as well as the downloadable Who Told You That You Were naked. I haven’t been up here in a looong time but now remember why I loved your site so much and I do not plan to be away from it again. Never have I found someone who breaks the word of God down so simply and beautifully understandable what I said may not be grammatically correct but right now I’m overwhelmed with joy because I’ve always said the word of God is simple what I mean is man make the word of God hard to understand, how to swallow and always leaving you feeling unworthy of God then along comes you a man after my own heart it’s been over 20 years that I’ve been searching for what I believe God intended for his word to do, “make me free”. When I get myself together emotionally I will comment again. I’m just happy you get the word without sensualizing the word.
PLEASE CONTINUE WHAT YOU DO WEATHER YOU KNOW IT OR NOT YOU ARE NEEDED IF IT’S NOT BUT ONE YOU ARE NEEDED BY THAT ONE. CONTINUE TO OBEY GOD AND GOD BLESS YOU IN ALL THAT YOU DO.
Angela,
Thanks for sharing your heartfelt thoughts.
We don’t care about grammar here!
Glad to have you back here at bestillknowgod.com!
