John 6:63
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. (KJV)
Quicken means “to make alive”
Jesus is saying in this verse that His words make alive – indeed are life!
Words are to the outward indicator of our internal condition. They’re a gage you could say.
Words are very important therefore. Much more important than we typically think.
Matthew 12:34
O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. (KJV)
Likely when God speaks to you it will be a flood of thought – impressions on your mind if you will.
Words will come to you to describe the message. In my experience, word seem inadequate – I mean how do you put into words the awesome spirit and power of God?
So here’s the key to knowing God’s voice:
The words that come to you will be the external indicators of something you have felt/sensed in your heart.
They will be spirit and life. When you speak or think about these words, you will sense a quickening within.
You will FEEL more ALIVE. I get that feeling as I write this and it lets me know that this is from God! This is awesome!
If you’re feeling ordinary or gloomy and down in your thoughts – that’s not God.
Spirit and Life – that’s what we’re after – and that’s what God gives us!
John 10:10
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (KJV)
Abundant life is your birthright.
Words and thoughts that are death are not from God. You can sense their power as well when you think or speak them. You will feel less alive. Pay attention to how your words and thoughts make you feel.
One more important point: Words of life that you receive are yours. You may share them and those you share them with may be quickened – or not. That’s not your concern. If those around you are not quickened by the words of life that have quickened you – it’s because they’re in a slightly different place and that’s okay. Don’t let that take from your own experience.

Hello Robert
Any suggestions for stilling the mind absolutely?
Padma,
Stilling the mind absolutely may very well be impossible. Our minds are always flitting from one thing to another.
When we become aware of this and become the observer and just watch our mind do it’s thing it seems to help slow it down. There may be periods of absolute stillness but it won’t last too long – and that’s okay.
We’re completely fine the way God made us and completely capable of communicating with Him even though we often think the circumstances aren’t perfect. That’s just something we need to let go of.
There are some other tips on my site – I guess I should organize it a little better – visit Be Still and Know That I Am God – also How to be still for the Presence of the Lord.
Blessings,
Robert
Hey Robert, I really like the last paragraph about sharing with others and it not quickening them. That happens a lot to me! I often get down about it, so I appreciate you bringing out that the other person may be in a different place spiritually. I’m sure they can still learn from it, but likely it will not be as special to them. I think individual revelations are that way.. they are so powerful to the one that received the message, because it’s straight from God.
