Daily Conversations With God

Why am I not having communication daily like I hear others say they do?

I think I know where you’re coming from with this question.

You read and hear about people who have these incredible relationships with God – and you wonder – why can’t that be me?

Well . . . It CAN be you.

Time out for a little rant:

I think that way too often we look at the lives and experience of other people and wonder “Why not me?”  Often we spend way too much time looking at what everyone else is doing and at the end of the day that’s all we’ve got – an awareness of a narrow slice of someone’s life and we’ve failed to live our own life to it’s fullest extent that day!  The solution?  Pick what you want to do and be and GO FOR IT!  Expect a few little failures while remembering you have to DO something to fail and it’s people who do something and keep doing it who succeed!  Replace the “Why not me?” with “That’s for me!” and begin the process to make it happen!

End of rant.

Okay so you want to hear from God every day – Let’s make it happen!

No doubt if you’re aware of others having the experience, you know some tips, techniques and practices that they engage in.  How often do you exercise yourself in those activities?

If you’ve spent much time on my site you know that one of the first steps to conversation with God is becoming still.

How often do you practice becoming still?

I know it’s not easy.  Life is busy and noisy.  Everybody wants a piece of your time.  You have to become selective.  Choose what you want – choosing necessarily excludes some options.  I chose to marry my wife and that excludes certain activities with all other women – at least that’s how it works for me.  As you know not everyone sees it that way – but that’s another subject.

If you choose a daily conversation with God then that means there will be a block of your time every day that is devoted to God and God alone.  Nothing else is allowed in that slot.  That’s the only way to make it happen.

For some reason it seems difficult to do this.  But it depends all upon the importance of our choice.  Think about all the other time in the day you devote to certain things.  If you have a job you block out a pretty big chunk of time for that.  If you bathe, brush your teeth, get dressed, drive somewhere, and eat on a daily basis – you are making choices about each activity and blocking out time for each.

For a conversation with God it may mean getting up at 2am when all is quiet.  It may mean turning off your cell phone, computer, TV, ipod, etc.  Only you can determine what time with God will require for your unique lifestyle.

Regardless of what it takes there will be a small cost – but I can promise you that the exchange is in your favor and the rewards far outweigh the cost!

Make it happen!

It’s funny a few years ago I made time to lift, joined kempo karate and excerise and scheduled this time in my routine, also about prayer and medication is devoted for about 1/2 to 1hr every night to first give thanks for my many blessings that totally out weighs my trials or problems. Robert I’ve taken your advice about being still and try to listen, very powerful things come to me which seperates me from my earthly flesh and excites my inner spirit and peace and grace follows.
keep it going great job gene

Gene,

It sounds like you’re experiencing exactly what you’re after. Isn’t it amazing how complicated we humans try to make our lives?

Blessings,

Robert
